During this intro class you will learn:

  • how massage provides many benefits for those living with a mental health concern or diagnosis.
  • basic concepts on how to approach and safely adapt massage when working within many aspects of this special population
  • how massage can also support the families or caregivers of those living with a diagnosis.

We will discuss things like anxiety, depression, PTSD, sleep disorders, perinatal mood disorders, and addictive behaviors.  We will explore the research on mental health and massage and how to use it to talk to other care providers to get referrals.  We will also discuss scope of practice and boundaries when working with this population.

*This class was created in collaboration with Samantha C. Eklund who has her masters in professional counseling, is a youth services supervisor at Pathways, and has coauthored a journal in the Delaware Academy of Medicine.
